
HALLOWEEN FESTIVITIES
Like many other historic cities along the Eastern seaboard, Wilmington celebrates Halloween with a creative outfit and a scary ghost story. There are events going on all weekend long and Halloween culminates Tuesday night with many costume parties. Most of the city is getting involved, whether it be participating in the numerous contests or just handing out candies to trick-or-treaters.
With the weather cooling off, it's the perfect time of year for Ghost Walk of Old Wilmington. This offical site has tour times, locations, pictures and more. Also, you can buy your tickets online for a spooky nighttime tour led by some of Wilmington's most colorful residents.
The 3rd annual Scarecrow Festival sponsored by the Downtown Business Alliance featured more than 60 stuffed creations. On October 21st, first prize was announced at the Riverfront Farmer's Market and the winner...The kids at the Southport Montessori School. The people's choice award went to the Edge of Urge on Market Street. Decorations will continue to spook the streets through November 1st.
Popular Grove Plantation is holding their Haunted Hayride & Barn festivities through October 31st midnight. The Lyceum Academy at New Hanover High School presents "Once upon a Nightmare" Haunted House, based on Grimm's fairy tales at the former Advanced Auto Parts Building on South Kerr. All showings start at 7:00p.m. except on October 31st 6:00p.m. and tickets are $10.
Join local radio station Surf 98.3 and the Party Pro's downtown at the Reel Cafe for a Costume Contest for cash prizes. Also, ROX nightclub and Bella Festa in the downtown district will be holding contests. Crush Lounge and Wild Wing Cafe on Military Cutoff will also be holding Costume Contests on Halloween.
These are a few options for those looking for a fun Halloween. Some may chose to celebrate Halloween over the weekend or on Tuesday. Most importantly, have a costume on and have a good, safe time!!!
